Crested geckos can "change their colours" or more accurately fire up or down their colour saturation. When calm, hiding or sleeping they fire down. When they are awake, feeling spunky or sometimes in the sunshine they can fire up. You can see the saturation range in these photos... Some were wide awake and others woke up for their photo.
